I’ve never met a blazer or jacket I didn’t like. And when you visit Elitaire, you’re sure to find either one or both always in stock. So when I saw this adorable Breton Striped Jacket from our favorite Parisian brand, I had to have it. Stripes, especially the Breton Stripe, are so very classic and French Girl, not to mention transitional! Find the right stripe and it will take you from season to season, all year round. Talk about a money saver!
Now, I know mixing and matching can be intimidating to a lot of people but I promise, it doesn’t need to be! It’s all about finding what works for your body AND your comfort level. Confidence is key when you’re wearing anything; when you’re feeling confident it’s going to show in everything you do… and wear!
Here’s my only ground rule for mixing prints: keep it to two prints max. (Unless you’re adding leopard print, but that’s a whole other blog post for a different day!) Wearing more than two prints could clash and put you in the Punky Brewster category. Even though she was cute and all, let’s not get crazy.
Now, let’s tackle the stripe faux pas real quick: Just because a stripe is horizontal doesn’t mean it will make you appear wider than you really are. Stick to a smaller stripe instead of a thicker one, and wear the stripe on top, not the bottom. Next up: Florals. Some of you gals don’t do florals and that’s totally fine! Keep doing you, girl; you know what you like! But if you love a floral like I do, keep the floral print to a smaller pattern rather than a larger one when your planning on mixing prints.
One of my favorite prints to mix are florals and stripes; it’s relatively easy and nothing gets more French Girl than combining the two! I loved the bright, sea green of this floral blouse combined with the Breton Striped Jacket; it has me dreaming of Spring! Then I tied it altogether by adding a neutral with this denim pencil skirt and brought the pink out in the blouse with these Satin Pumps! To give this outfit some street-style, I added a pair of gold hoops and this Leather Backpack (which is not only fashionable but convenient) instead of a clutch for a relaxed day-time look. Y’all, this bag hold’s everything, gives back to women and is so chic. #winning
Not ready to mix prints or it’s just not your thing? Totally cool. We’ve got the perfect bomber jacket that keeps things simple while adding a bit of texture to this look so you still feel glam. Plus a white jacket is seriously chic!
What are your favorite prints to mix or do you even mix at all? I would love to get your feedback on how you like to mix and match!
